Common mistakes
- 1Passing personal data (emails, names) as user attributes when anonymous keys would suffice for flag evaluation
- 2Not distinguishing between operational feature flags (functional) and user-targeting experiments (analytics)
- 3Using client-side evaluation when server-side would avoid transmitting user context to LaunchDarkly
Compliance considerations
Feature flag evaluation can be performed server-side without collecting personal data. Client-side SDKs transmit user context (keys, attributes) for flag evaluation. When used purely for operational feature toggling, a functional/legitimate interest basis is appropriate. When used for user-targeting experiments, analytics consent may be required.
