Common mistakes

  • 1Claiming CNIL consent exemption outside France - the exemption applies only under CNIL jurisdiction, not under Irish SI 336/2011 or UK PECR
  • 2Conflating analytics consent with personalisation consent when both Piano products are deployed
  • 3Not configuring IP anonymisation and limited retention as required for the CNIL exemption
  • 4Firing Piano Analytics tags before obtaining valid consent on EU/UK domains
  • 5Not migrating from legacy AT Internet domains (ati-host.net, xiti.com) to the new pa-cd.com endpoints

Compliance considerations

Piano Analytics is the successor to AT Internet (Xiti). Headquartered in France with EU data residency. The CNIL has granted an exemption for audience measurement in limited configurations, but this exemption is France-only under CNIL jurisdiction. Under Irish SI 336/2011 (ePrivacy transposition) and UK PECR, consent is required for all non-essential analytics cookies regardless of data residency. The Composer (paywall/subscription) product has separate consent requirements. Verify analytics configuration meets CNIL exemption criteria only if operating under French jurisdiction.
